Punjab Vidhan Sabha pays tribute to departed souls, honoring political, literary & social contributions

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Mann, solemnly paid tribute to several distinguished individuals who passed away since the last Assembly session. The House expressed its heartfelt condolences to honor political leaders, freedom fighters, journalists, literary figures, and other notable personalities.

During the seventh session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Assembly paid respects to the former Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Surjit Singh Minhas; former Ministers Sukhdev Singh Dhillon and Surjit Singh Kohli; former MPs Kamal Chaudhry and Gurcharan Kaur; former MLA Dhanwant Singh; and freedom fighters Sardool Singh, Kashmir Singh, Gurdev Singh, and Jagdish Prasad. The session also commemorated the contributions of eminent writer and poet Dr. Surjit Patar, founder of the Spokesman Newspaper Joginder Singh, and Editor of Pehredar Jaspal Singh Heran. Additionally, the House honored the memory of Jasbir Kaur Lally and Sharanjit Singh Mann, the mother and husband of Nakodar MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann.

A two-minute silence was observed to honor these departed souls, reflecting on their significant impact on Punjab’s social, political, and cultural landscape. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann praised their contributions, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who have shaped Punjab’s history and values. “The legacies of these individuals are etched in our hearts and minds. We owe them a great debt of gratitude for their service to society,” he remarked.

Under CM Mann’s leadership, the Punjab Government continues to acknowledge and honor the contributions of its citizens, fostering a culture of respect and reverence for those who have dedicated their lives to the progress and development of the state.
