Punjab issues Electoral Roll schedule for Municipal Council elections

The State Election Commission has announced the schedule for preparing electoral rolls for the upcoming general elections to the Municipal Councils of Tarn Taran (District Tarn Taran), Dera Baba Nanak (District Gurdaspur), and Talwara (District Hoshiarpur). The process will begin on January 20, 2025.

State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri revealed that the draft electoral rolls will be prepared from January 20 to January 24, 2025, with January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date. The draft rolls will be published on January 25, 2025. Citizens can file claims and objections from January 27 to February 3, 2025. All claims and objections will be resolved by February 11, 2025, and the final electoral rolls will be published on February 14, 2025.

Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers of Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur have been instructed to ensure wide publicity of the draft electoral rolls on January 25, 2025. Eligible residents aged 18 and above are encouraged to apply for inclusion in the voter lists or raise objections within the specified timeframe.

The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters within these municipalities to register during the claims and objections period to ensure their inclusion in the final voter list. This step is crucial to enable them to participate in the democratic process during the general elections for the three Municipal Councils.

The final voter lists, to be published by the respective Electoral Registration Officers (SDMs), will form the foundation for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of timely registration and corrections.
