Punjab government introduces psychometric tests for class 10 girls

The Punjab Government has introduced psychometric tests for girl students in government schools to help them identify their strengths and aptitudes for future career planning and personal development.

These tests will be conducted for Class 10 students across the state.

Providing details about the initiative, Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has allocated over ₹6.56 crore for this program.

The initiative aims to benefit approximately 93,819 students, with all tests scheduled for completion by March 31, 2025.

To ensure smooth execution, district-level committees, led by District Education Officers (Secondary), have been formed. These committees will oversee the testing process and monitor its implementation in their respective districts.

The primary objective is to assess students’ mental abilities, interests, and personality traits to guide them in making informed career choices.

Harjot Singh Bains emphasized that many students face confusion after completing their 10th board exams regarding which career path to pursue. This decision plays a crucial role in selecting the right stream in 11th grade.

While private school students often have access to career counseling, government school students lack similar support and often choose streams based on peer influence rather than personal aptitude. This misalignment can hinder their long-term career prospects.

Recognizing this gap, the Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has introduced psychometric tests to provide government school students with equal opportunities. This initiative aims to help them make confident career decisions based on their individual strengths and interests.

Beyond career planning, the initiative is expected to boost students' confidence and awareness about their future while also enhancing the overall quality and standards of education in government schools.
