Ferozepur’s Basant Festival ends on a high note, celebrating culture and kite-flying tradition

The two-day state-level Basant festival at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, concluded with vibrant celebrations, cultural performances, and enthusiastic participation from people across the state. The festival, which showcased Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, left an indelible mark on attendees.

The grand event saw a massive turnout, with locals and visitors enjoying the festivities. Among the highlights was the kite-flying competition, where winners were awarded prize money by MLA Ferozepur Rural Advocate Rajnish Dahiya, MLA Ferozepur Urban S. Ranbir Singh Bhullar, and Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma.

Kite-Flying Champions Honoured
Celebrating the winners, the officials lauded the Punjab government's efforts in promoting Ferozepur as a cultural and tourism hub. They emphasized Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of preserving and promoting traditional festivals, with Ferozepur’s Basant Panchami now gaining state-level recognition.

Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma highlighted Ferozepur’s historic significance in kite-flying and announced the winners:

Largest Kite Flyer: Bharat Bhushan
Under-10 Category: Aditya (Boys) & Kirti (Girls)
Above-10 Category: Jagjit (Boys) & Prerna (Girls)
All winners received cash prizes, celebrating their skill and enthusiasm for the sport.

A Cultural Extravaganza
The festival was a cultural delight, featuring Bhangra, folk dances, and mesmerizing performances by Punjabi singers Alap Sikander and Sarang Sikander, who entertained the audience with their hit numbers. Local artists also took center stage, captivating attendees with their talent.

In a socially impactful initiative, a blood donation camp was organized, drawing significant participation from the public.

Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma, alongside Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister S. Tarunpreet Singh Sond, affirmed that Punjab’s administration is committed to elevating Ferozepur’s Basant festival to national and international prominence.

The event saw participation from senior district officials, NGOs, and a large number of enthusiastic residents, reinforcing Ferozepur’s growing reputation as a cultural epicenter.
