Madhya Pradesh to celebrate Balram Jayanti and Krishna Janmashtami with grand festivities: CM Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced that Balram Jayanti (August 14) and Shri Krishna Janmashtami (August 16) will be celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and fervour throughout the state.

Cultural and devotional programs will take place to highlight the life, teachings, and social contributions of Lord Balram and Lord Krishna.

During a review meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday, Dr. Yadav took stock of the preparations for the upcoming Haldhar Mahotsav and the Prakatotsav (appearance celebrations) of Leela Purushottam. He was briefed on planned activities under the Krishna festival and directed that all events be “well-organised and finalised with proper planning.”

The Chief Minister said, “Statewide cultural and devotional programs will be held, highlighting the life stories, teachings, and contributions of Lord Balram and Lord Krishna for the welfare of society.” He added that there will be special events at selected temples across the state, involving participation from educational institutions like universities, colleges, and schools, along with local literary, social, and cultural bodies.

Officials informed the meeting that a comprehensive calendar of events has been drawn up for the celebrations. Key religious sites linked to Lord Krishna’s life—such as Sandipani Ashram in Ujjain, Narayana Dham, Amjhera, Jamgarh, and Janapav—will host major events.

A special programme will also be held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bhopal. On this occasion, children from various districts—dressed as Bal Gopal (child Krishna)—will share the stage. The Department of Culture and Tourism will work with artists to enhance the cultural impact of the festivities.

Among those present at the review meeting were Public Relations Commissioner and Secretary Dr. Sudam Khade, Secretary to the Chief Minister and Managing Director of the Tourism Development Corporation Shri Ilaiya Raja, Chief Minister’s Cultural Advisor Shri Ram Tiwari, Director of Culture Shri M.P. Namdev, and other senior officials.
