Mamata's plane was about to hit another aircraft mid-air. This is how head-on collision was averted

Mamata Banerjee's plane was about to hit another aircraft, but a collision was averted at the last moment by the pilot's prompt action. This was the claim reportedly made by the West Bengal Chief Minister days after her flight was reported to have hit turbulence, and rocked violently.

Mamata was returning to Bengal on March 4 from Uttar Pradesh after campaigning for Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, when the incident occurred. Mamata reportedly said that a plane "all of a sudden" came in front of her chartered flight, and "if the situation had continued for 10 more seconds, then there would have been a head-on collision".

The Trinamool Congress supremo credited the pilot's "efficiency" for avoiding the mishap, by making the plane descend 6,000 feet. But the steep and rapid descent caused injuries on Mamata's back and chest, as per reports.

The plane eventually landed safely at the Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport in Kolkata. The West Bengal government reportedly sought a report from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA on March 5 after the incident.
