Goa Congress Eyes Alliances, Awaits High Command Decision for 2027 Elections

Panaji, Oct 27 (PTI) — Goa Congress president Amit Patkar has stated that while unity among Opposition parties remains a priority, the final decision on forming alliances for the 2027 assembly elections will rest with the party's high command.

Patkar emphasized the Congress's strong presence in all 40 constituencies of Goa, asserting the party's capability to contest independently. "Our priority, however, remains the unity of the Opposition and the protection of Goa's identity and democratic values," he remarked.

His remarks follow a meeting of Opposition figures such as Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MLA Altone D'Costa, Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai, and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) president Manoj Parab. These leaders gathered at a pre-Diwali event, emphasizing the importance of a united front against the BJP in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Patkar noted that any decision regarding alliances would be made by the Congress high command, which will engage in detailed deliberations with all stakeholders involved. "The GPCC will follow the directives of our leadership in the interest of bolstering secular and democratic forces in Goa," Patkar stated.

The Congress party believes that all like-minded groups opposing the BJP's divisive and corrupt policies should unite around shared principles and policies. "The specifics of potential alliances, including those with parties like the AAP, will be decided at the appropriate level by our central leadership," Patkar added.

Congress MLA Altone D'Costa expressed that local leaders are committed to persuading the party high command regarding an alliance with Opposition parties for the 2027 elections, highlighting the necessity for all Opposition forces, including the AAP, to stand together against the BJP.
