Delhi Court issues notice to AAP's Atishi, Sanjay Singh in defamation case

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice to Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena and AAP MP Sanjay Singh over a defamation lawsuit filed by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit.

The case stems from allegations made during a December 26, 2024, press conference, where Atishi and Singh reportedly accused Dikshit of accepting "crores of rupees" from the BJP to damage AAP’s election prospects.

Dikshit, who is contesting against former CM Arvind Kejriwal for the New Delhi constituency in the upcoming Delhi elections, expressed anger over the accusations. “For over a decade, they’ve targeted me and my family. I have many questions for AAP that have been lingering for the last 10-12 years,” he said.

Dikshit also criticized Kejriwal’s governance, particularly questioning AAP's election promises. “Why implement these measures now? Why not earlier? When Kejriwal was in prison, he wasted over a year. If he becomes CM again, will he still fail to deliver on these schemes?” he asked.

In response, Atishi accused Congress of covertly collaborating with the BJP to weaken AAP. “Our sources indicate that BJP is funding Congress-linked candidates. Congress should explain why it is echoing BJP's agenda while supposedly being opposed to it,” Atishi remarked.

She singled out Dikshit and Congress candidate Farhad Suri, alleging that they were receiving "hidden support" from the BJP. Atishi also called for action against Congress leader Ajay Maken for his remarks calling Kejriwal “anti-national.”

The dispute highlights the growing political tensions as Delhi heads into its crucial assembly elections.
