Reports: Rekha to reportedly sign Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Heeramandi,' his debut Netflix show

There is some good news for Rekha fans. The ageless diva, who has been away from the silver screen for over seven years, is reportedly all set to make her comeback. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the actor is in 'advanced talks' with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his debut Netflix web show 'Heeramandi.' A source told the publication that the role has been specially written for Rekha.

The source further added that Rekha had been keen to work with Bhansali for a longtime and the filmmaker too was desirous of tapping into 'the Rekha mystique’.

In an interview with Variety, the filmmaker had talked about his forthcoming project and said 'it was vast and ambitious.' He added that the story is a huge saga about the courtesans of Lahore and it was something he was living with for 14 years.

'Heeramandi' will be exclusively streamed on Netflix. It's first season will comprise of a total of seven episodes of one hour each.

As per a News18 report, the cast of ‘Heeramandi’ includes actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditi Rao Hydari. A-list stars like Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Tabu, and Shabana Azmi had reportedly turned down the film.
