Kit Harington reveals GoT Jon Snow spinoff no longer in development: 'Couldn't find a story to tell'

Kit Harington has confirmed Jon Snow is not coming back. Making the heartbreaking revelation, the actor said that the Jon Snow spinoff of 'Game of Thrones' is no longer in development. In an interview with The Associated Press, Harington revealed that the plans for a Jon Snow spin-off sequel are off the table for the foreseeable future. Though 'GoT' ended its eight-season-long run in 2019, multiple spin-offs based on George R.R. Martin's works are currently underway at HBO.

'We're going to leave it there'

It was first reported in 2022 that a Jon Snow spinoff series, which was touted as a sequel to 'Game of Thrones' following Kit Harington's character, was being developed. However, Harington has now shut down the talk of the show. He said, “We sort of threw around a few ideas. Nothing really stuck, and we’re going to leave it there for the moment.”

'Couldn't find a story to tell'

In an interview with Screenrant, Kit confirmed that while the show was indeed in development previously, the idea is now off the table as the makers couldn't find the right story to tell.

The actor added, "I hadn't really ever spoken about it because it was in development. I didn't want it to leak out that it was being developed, and I didn't want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorising, getting either excited about it or hate the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle and see whether it's worth it.

"So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future when we return to it, but at the moment, no. It's firmly on the shelf," he mentioned.

Kit recently reunited with HBO for a special appearance in the network's upcoming drama, 'Industry', which is slated to premiere later this year. Meanwhile, the 'GoT' spin-off, 'House of the Dragon', based on the book 'Fire & Blood' by George R.R. Martin, has been a mega-hit. The second season of the prequel is set to premiere on June 16.
