‘House of the Dragon 2’ trailer: Rhaenyra Targaryen declares 'war is coming' | Watch

HBO dropped the official trailer of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 on May 14 and urged viewers to ‘Raise your banners’ for the upcoming season.

The trailer takes us to the Wall as Westeros plunges into a fiery, bloody war. Based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, the Game of Thrones prequel premiered in 2022, setting the stage for the devastating Dance of the Dragons war of succession. With Season 1 ending with Aemond's dragon Vhagar killing Lucerys, Season 2 sees Rhaenyra driven by revenge, intensifying the conflict.

The trailer further establishes the impending Targaryen civil war, with King Aegon II seizing Rhaenyra's throne. Rhaenyra and Daemon lead the Blacks in a plan to invade King's Landing for the Iron Throne, while the Greens, loyal to Aegon, prepare to defend it.

Returning for the new season are cast members Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Also returning are Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

Joining the cast are new members Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

The trailer comes just hours after Amazon revealed the first trailer for the second season of its fantasy drama, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’.

‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 will be released on June 19, 2024.

After the 10-episode first season, ‘House of the Dragon’ will consist of eight episodes for its second season, as reported by Deadline in March 2023.

Ryan Condal will now be the sole showrunner, with Alan Taylor, a ‘Game of Thrones’ alum, serving as an executive producer and directing some Season 2 episodes.
