‘Thalaivar 171’: Rajinikanth’s first look from Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film out; title announcement soon

Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagraj unveiled Rajinikanth's first look from their upcoming film, ‘Thalaivar 171’. In the new poster, the megastar can be seen looking rugged and stylish, with handcuffs made out of gold watches. He also sports gold sunglasses against a backdrop resembling the inner workings of a watch.

Lokesh took to X to announce that the film’s title will be revealed on April 22. Sharing the poster, he wrote, ‘Thalaivar 171 title reveal on April 22.’

Fans speculated whether Suriya's character ‘Rolex’ would appear in the film since the handcuffs are watch-themed.

‘ROLEX APPAN AH IRKUMOOO (Will it feature Rolex?)’ a fan wondered. ‘Rolex Dady is coming.. #Thalaivar171 ,’ added another. ‘Is Loki saying #Thalaivar171 is ROLEX ka BAAP,’ a third fan speculated.

While details are awaited, the poster suggests a theme of time and gold. The film's pre-production is ongoing, set to commence filming later this year.

About Thalaivar 171

Rajinikanth teams up with Lokesh for the first time in this Sun Pictures production announced last September. While Sivakarthikeyan is rumoured to have a significant role, the rest of the cast and crew remain undisclosed. Anirudh Ravichander and stunt duo Anbariv are confirmed onboard, as indicated by the new poster.

Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that Rajinikanth was closely involved in monitoring the progress of the film, detecting any alterations despite efforts to maintain secrecy. The movie will incorporate more action sequences, marking Rajini's return to intense action. Rajinikanth expressed excitement about the intriguing script and his exploration of a new genre as a director.

Rajinikanth's last appearance was in daughter Aishwarya's ‘Lal Salaam’. Currently, he's filming Vettaiyan directed by TJ Gnanavel, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati. Following the success of ‘Vikram’ with Kamal Haasan in 2022, Lokesh directed ‘Leo’ with Vijay in 2023 and made his acting debut in Shruti Haasan's song ‘Inimel’. Besides the Rajinikanth project, Lokesh has ‘Kaithi 2’ with Karthi in the pipeline.
