Malayalam actor Lena announces marriage to Gaganyaan astronaut Prasanth Nair: ‘I was waiting…’

Malayalam actor Lena took to Instagram on February 27 to announce that she's married to Gaganyaan astronaut Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair. The couple tied the knot on January 17, 2024, but kept it quiet until now.

Lena's revelation followed PM Modi's announcement of Nair's selection for India’s Gaganyaan mission. She expressed pride in her husband's achievement and called it a historic moment for India and Kerala in an Instagram post.

Lena expressed her emotions in a touching message accompanied by a collage of photos showcasing herself and Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair. As per her Instagram post, the wedding ceremony was conducted in a traditional manner through an arranged marriage.

Sharing photos, she wrote, ‘Today , 27 February, 2024 , our Prime Minister , Modi ji Awarded the First Indian Astronaut Wings to Indian Air Force Fighter Pilot ,Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair . It is a historic moment of pride for our Country , our state of Kerala and Me personally. In order to maintain the officially required confidentiality, I was waiting for this announcement to let you know that I got married to Prasanth on 17 January, 2024 in a traditional ceremony through an arranged marriage.’

In addition to Prasanth, the three astronauts slated for training are Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Subhanshu Shukla. Gaganyaan represents India's inaugural human space flight mission, with training scheduled to occur at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thumba, near Thiruvananthapuram. According to ISRO, the Gaganyaan program aims to demonstrate human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) in the near term and establish the groundwork for a sustainable Indian human space exploration initiative in the future.
