‘Lal Salaam’: Fans react as AR Rahman uses AI to recreate voices of late singers

Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman is once again making headlines for reviving the voices of the late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This innovative approach was employed for the song 'Thimiri Yezhuda' in Rajinikanth's 'Lal Salaam'. Rahman shared that he obtained consent from their families and compensated them accordingly.

The composer wrote, ‘We took permission from their families and sent deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms...technology is not a threat and a nuisance if we use it right...#respect #nostalgia (sic).’

Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed shared a close collaboration with AR Rahman, producing numerous blockbuster songs. Unfortunately, Shahul Hameed lost his life in a car accident back in 1997, while Bamba Bakya passed away due to a cardiac arrest in 2022.
