‘Kantara’ star Rishab Shetty criticizes OTT platforms for their reluctance to embrace Kannada cinema

Rishab Shetty, renowned for his role in 'Kantara,' voiced his discontent at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), lamenting the lack of support from major OTT platforms for Kannada cinema. He emphasized that the refusal to include Kannada movies is a concerning and discouraging trend in the industry.

‘OTT platforms are not open to the Kannada film industry. That is a very bad sign. They say there are no subscribers here, they are looking into the matter and thinking. Two production houses were actively working during Corona, Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios and my Rishab Shetty films, and apart from that, some production houses were also making films, and we are actively doing film festivals, but they are not taking the films,’ Rishab Shetty said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

In addition, the actor appealed to IFFI for assistance in garnering recognition for Kannada films. He highlighted the importance of acknowledging movies with limited theatrical exposure and advocating for their inclusion on OTT platforms to ensure wider reach and recognition.

Rishab Shetty’s work front

Rishab Shetty is currently working on ‘Kantara 2’, which is officially titled ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’. The first look of the much-awaited movie was recently revealed in which the actor was seen soaked in blood.

The shooting of the film is currently progressing at a brisk pace.

Talking about ‘Kantara 2’ earlier this year, Shetty shared, ‘We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who had shown immense love and support to Kantara and taking the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of Kantara. What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year.’
