Seventeen’s Jun eyes film career in China; will miss upcoming world tour and other group activities

SEVENTEEN’s beloved member Jun will not be joining the boy group's upcoming world tour as he will focus on his acting career in China during the latter half of 2024. Consequently, he will miss Lollapalooza Berlin and the promotional activities and music shows for their 12th mini album.

Similarly, many Chinese K-pop idols, including Super Junior’s Hankyung and PRISTIN’s Kyulkyung, have opted to pursue their careers in China rather than Korea. Despite the immense popularity of the ‘Hallyu Wave,’ they choose the Chinese market for several reasons.

According to reports, one major factor is the substantial income from solo activities in China. Many K-pop idols face issues with unfair contracts and low earnings even years after their debut. Achieving success as a K-pop idol often ensures a successful career back in China, where their skills are highly valued.

Chinese idols benefit from higher earnings, with revenue from Chinese activities estimated to be up to eight times greater than domestic earnings. This financial incentive explains why many Chinese celebrities prefer to align with their Chinese fans.

Idols like f(x)’s Victoria and WJSN’s Cheng Xiao have seen significant increases in their income in China compared to Korea.
