South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun's tragic demise was mourned at the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards held on February 24th in Los Angeles, USA. For the unversed, the actor, known for his award-winning role in 'Parasite' claimed his own life last year following a challenging drug trial that brought him public scrutiny.

The star-studded ceremony took a moment to pay an ode to South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun. In a section dedicated to paying homage to actors who passed away last year, Lee was also remembered for his contribution to cinema and his celebrated role in the acclaimed film, 'Parasite'.

British actress Naomi Watts said, “Last year, we lost many extraordinary actors. The absence of those who touched the world with their talent is deeply felt.”

International accolades won by the actor

Lee Sun Gyun had previously won the Ensemble Award at the prestigious Academy Awards ceremony in 2020 with his 'Parasite' co-stars. At that time, he had shared the joyous occasion with Song Kang-ho, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, and Lee Jung-eun. In 2021, Lee won a Screen Actors Guild award for 'cast in a motion picture' for his role in the same film.

Lee Sun Gyun's death

Lee Sun Gyun died at the age of 48 on December 27, 2023. The actor was found dead in a car in a central Seoul park. K-media reports suggested that the actor died by suicide amid a drug investigation against him. Aside from 'Parasite,' the actor was also known for his roles in 'Coffee Prince', 'A Hard Day', 'My Mister' and 'All About My Wife'.
