Will Smith feels his Oscar slap controversy may hurt his forthcoming film ‘Emancipation’

Hollywood actor Will Smith is all set to make his comeback to the screen following his Oscars controversy in which he assaulted host Chris Rock on stage. He won Best Actor later that night for ‘King Richard’ but was eventually banned by the Academy.

Smith’s popularity declined significantly following the Oscar ceremony and his forthcoming film ‘Emancipation’, which was originally scheduled to release in May, was also postponed.

Smith is now promoting his film and he doesn't seem to be shying away from the Oscars controversy. He recently spoke about the impact this will have on the film's reception.
Speaking with Fox 5, Will Smith said, ‘I completely understand — if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready.’

He added, ‘My deepest concern is my team – Antoine has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career. The people on this team have done some of the best work of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. At this point, that’s what I’m working for.’

‘Emancipation’ will release in theatres on December 2 and it will stream on Apple TV+ from December 9.
