Tina Turner, 'Queen of rock 'n' roll', dies at 83

Legendary singer Tina Turner died after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland. She was 83. The rock'n'roll star had suffered I'll health in recent years. She was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and she had a kidney transplant a year later.

In a statement on Wednesday night, her publicist Bernard Doherty said, ‘Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.’

Tina Turner started her career in the 1950s and became an MTV phenomenon. In the 1980s, she bagged six of her eight Grammy Awards and during this decade she had many songs in the Top 40, including ‘Typical Male,’ ‘The Best,’ ‘Private Dancer’ and ‘Better Be Good to Me.’

Her show in Rio de Janeiro in 1988 attracted 180,000 people and it remains one of the largest concert audiences for any single performer.

In 2000, Tina Turner announced her retirement, a year after releasing her final solo album, ‘Twenty Four Seven’. However, she returned to the stage in 2008 to perform at the Grammy awards with Beyoncé, and for a final tour to mark 50 years of her career.
