'The Idea of You' star Anne Hathaway encounters an embarrassing moment at The Tonight Show | Watch

Anne Hathaway, currently busy promoting her film 'The Idea of You', encountered an embarrassing situation. On Monday, Anne was hosted by Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. In an interactive session, the actor questioned the audience about whether or not they had read the novel that her most recent movie, is based on. While the actor would have loved a positive response, the pin-drop silence from the audience put her in a spot. Host Fallon was quick to take note of the awkward moment, and handled the situation with his quick-wittedness.

Awkward moment at The Tonight Show

In a viral video, the 'Ella Enchanted' star is seen asking the audience, “Has anybody here read the book?”. The silence echoed as everyone in the audience went silent. This made Anne uncomfortable for a brief moment, but Fallon was quick to chime in with his quirky response. “No, we don’t read. This is ‘The Tonight Show.’ You want to go to Stephen Colbert if you want to get people to read books. Lame!” he quipped, adding, “We do Audible here.” However, Hathaway took the joke even further as she sarcastically asked, “What's a book?”

Starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galetzine, the film has been directed by Michael Showalter. As per the official synopsis, the film is about a 40-year-old single mum who begins an unexpected romance with a 24-year-old boy band singer. The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 16, 2024, and was released by Amazon MGM Studios via Prime Video on May 2, 2024.
