Selena Gomez recently revealed that she cannot bear her own child despite wanting to be a mother all her life. The singer-actor cited her medical conditions as the reason behind it. For the unversed, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2013 and subsequently underwent a kidney transplant.

Selena reveals she cannot carry her own children

In an interaction with Vanity Fair, Gomez opened up about her future plans, including starting a family, with her boyfriend Benny Blanco. However, she insisted that it won’t “necessarily be the way she envisioned it.” Talking about her health and how she grieved about never being able to get pregnant, Selena mentioned, “I haven’t ever said this. But I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Singer says she will explore her options

Despite facing initial challenges in coming to terms with the heartbreaking news, Selena said that she is in a better place and is considering adopting as one of the options. “I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that wonderful people are willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby," she said.

'I've never been loved this way'

In the same interview, Selena also gushed about Benny Blanco. She said, “I’ve never been loved this way. He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything.”

      More about lupus

Lupus is an incurable autoimmune disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue. In addition to a kidney transplant in 2017, Selena also underwent chemotherapy to treat her autoimmune disease. Gomez also said the treatment affected her career and mental health.
