Selena Gomez confuses K-pop group's fandom with her own, sparking frenzy with photo

Selena Gomez mistakenly posted a fan photo of a well-known K-pop group on her social media. Initially meant as appreciation for her own fans, the mix-up caused a stir, sparking amusement, confusion, and even joy among K-pop enthusiasts globally. Despite limited commenting options, fans quickly identified the photo as belonging to the iconic K-pop girl group Girls' Generation.

On Valentine's Day, Selena Gomez thanked her fans on Instagram, calling them her "true Valentines." However, eagle-eyed fans noticed concert scenes featuring Girls' Generation, not her own, as her fandom doesn't use lightsticks.

Color Pink and Girls’ Generation

In K-pop, light-stick culture is prominent, with each group having its own designated light-stick and color brought by fans to concerts. Girls' Generation's vibrant pink light-stick is particularly iconic, creating a dazzling display at their shows.

It was later discovered that the picture was from the sea of the SONE fandom, also known as SNSD (So Nyeo Shi Dae). This image originated from a thumbnail of a video titled ‘Who the hell is Girls’ Generation.’ Although comments were disabled on the post, a Selena Gomez fan highlighted the mistake on social media.

A fan wrote, ‘Selena Gomez posts a photo of fans on the revival tour, a tour entirely in small Arenas, with montages in stadiums of the K-Pop group Girls Generation (snsd) show.’

The incident sparked a surge of users joining the conversation. Some found it amusing, while others urged the artist to conduct thorough research before posting.

A user wrote, ‘We always thought the ‘S’ in SNSD stood for SoNyuhShiDae, turns out it’s SelenaShiDae’, while otters commented, ‘She used the queen's of kpop pink ocean for her insta post....so embarrassing’, ‘Selena Gomez is actually the 10th member of Girls’ Generation..’
