Robert Downey Jr's Marvel return to new 'Avengers' movies: All the major highlights at Comic Con 2024

Comic-Con 2024 took place between July 25-July 28 in San Diego and had the best in store. From a surprise screening of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' to Marvel dropping some even bigger surprise announcements, the event was a gold mine for the comics and cine lovers.

1. RDJ doomed to return

Riding high on the success of 'Deadpool & Wolverine', Marvel Studios is back on the success trail and it certainly wants to keep it up. The man who was at the beginning of it all is back. From being a superhero loved by billions, Robert Downey Jr has been hired to play the biggest supervillain by Marvel Studios. Jaws dropped when RDJ removed his mask and unveiled himself as Marvel's Doctor Doom. The Oscar winning actor will play Victor Von Doom in the upcoming Avengers films. "Different mask, same task," RDJ said at Comic Con.

2. MCU's lineup- Captain America next

Marvel is ready for the new age of superheros and announced the stunning lineups of its upcoming films. Sam Wilson will be making debut as Captain America in 'Captain America: Brave New World' after Chris Evans got his sweet ending in 'Avengers: Endgame'. Harrison Ford, who is set to make his MCU debut as President Thaddeus Ross, joined the team on Comic Con stage as they revealed some exclusive glimpse from the film slated to release on Februrary 14, 2025.

3. Avengers' next films

After the failure of some of the recent movies and some major setbacks, Marvel is revamping and ready to shatter box office records. 'Avengers: Kang Dynasty' which was supposed to be the next 'Avengers' movie was scrapped after Jonathan Majors who played Kang was convicted and fired from Marvel Studios.

The Russo Brothers are joining hands again to direct the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday (May 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 2027).

4. 'The Fantastic Four' announcement

After X-men, MCU is also aiming to bring back the 'Fantastic Four' superheroes, courtesy Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have been hired to do the job in one of the most anticipated films of MCU, titled 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'. The film is entering production stage on July 30 and Marvel boss Kevin Feige has also confirmed that the team will also have a role in the next two 'Avengers' movies.

5. The New 'Thunderbolts' team

Harrison Ford as Ross is bringing together a new team of 'The Thunderbolts' after his 'Captain America: Brave New World' debut. The bad guys will be taking on the worse guys in the film and the first trailer of the film was released at the 2024 Comic Con in presence of film's cast.
