‘Riverdale’ star Lili Reinhart diagnosed with alopecia, undergoes treatment

American actor Lili Reinhart has been diagnosed with alopecia, according to Hollywood Reporter. The actor, best known for her role in ‘Riverdale’, took to TikTok to share a post about the red light therapy and wrote, ‘Was just diagnosed with alopecia in the midst of a major depressive episode.’

In the video that is being widely shared on social media, Reinhart can be seen lip-syncing to audio of a man saying, ‘I'm pushed beyond the limits of what a person should be pushed to endure.’

The actor captioned the post, ‘Red light therapy is my new best friend #alopecia #mentalhealth.’

What is alopecia?

The National Institute of Health states that alopecia occurs when the immune system targets and results in hair follicle damage, leading to hair loss. Primarily impacting the head and face, it can extend to any body part. The National Alopecia Areata Foundation notes the disorder's unknown cause and its prevalence among 6.7 million individuals in the United States.

Lili Reinhart, known for her openness about mental health struggles, acknowledged challenges in a 2020 Refinery29 interview. She described facing career and mental health fluctuations and feeling trapped in an enduring ‘black tunnel.’

Despite this, the ‘Hustlers’ actor emphasized confronting grief directly instead of relying on external influences to fill the void. In addressing heartache, Reinhart opted for a less conventional path, choosing to face her pain head-on rather than seeking solace in distractions like sex, drugs, or alcohol.
