Oscars 2023: Jimmy Kimmel set to return as Academy Award host, says 'it's either a great honor or a trap'

Comedian-chat show host Jimmy Kimmel will be the solo host of the 95th Academy Awards on March 12, 2023. This is the third time he will be serving as the host of the Oscars. He previously did the honours in 2017 and 2018. Before the late-night star, Jerry Lewis, Steve Martin, Conrad Nagel, and David Niven hosted the Oscar ceremony thrice.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the announcement on November 7. Their Instagram post read, ‘Introducing your 95th Academy Awards host, Jimmy Kimmel. Welcome back! Tune into ABC to watch the Oscars LIVE on Sunday, March 12th at 8e/5p! #Oscars95.’

In a joint statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said that Jimmy Kimmel has been selected for Oscars 2023 due to his ‘love of movies, live TV expertise and ability to connect with global audiences

‘His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide. With Kimmel, Weiss, and Kirshner’s fresh perspective and masterful guidance, the Oscars will celebrate its rich 95-year history, the collaborative nature of moviemaking, and our diverse, dynamic, and deeply creative community of filmmakers,’ read the statement.

Jimmy Kimmel thanked The Academy for giving him this opportunity in a statement. He said that ‘being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap. Either way, he’s grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.’

Chris Rock hosted the Oscars 2022 ceremony, but the event ended up becoming controversial after Will Smith hit the comedian for cracking a joke at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Oscars 2023 will be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
