Netflix won't be removing comedian Dave Chappelle's special, over his trans remarks

A top Netflix executive has said Dave Chappelle's special 'The Closer' doesn't cross 'the line on hate' and will remain on the streaming platform, despite fallout over the comedian's remarks about the transgender community.

Fans say Dave Chappelle’s latest special on Netflix, 'The Closer', included a series of transphobic jokes. On the special, Chappelle declared himself "Team TERF," which is typically applied to individuals who are openly opposed to transgender inclusion.

"Gender is a fact," Chappelle says in the special. "Every human being in this room, every human being on earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on earth," he added, before going on to compare transgender women to 'Beyond Meat'.

None of this went down well with the public, including the employees at Netflix. Several employees tweeted about how unacceptable this was.

In an internal memo, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos reportedly acknowledged the discontent from employees. His memo "offered guidance on how managers should handle upset employees and angry talent speaking out against Chapelle."

However, Netflix won't be taking the comedian's show down, and will remain on the streaming service despite fallout over the comedian's remarks.
