Jennifer Lawrence Shares Why She Is Endorsing Kamala Harris For 2024 Presidential Election

The US presidential election is just around the corner, and Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are in the final sprint for funds. Jennifer Lawrence, at 34, has made it clear who she’s backing in the 2024 election.

Several high-profile celebrities have rallied behind Democratic presidential nominee Harris, with their endorsements giving her campaign a noticeable boost.

Now, in an exclusive with People magazine, actor Jennifer Lawrence has made it clear who she’s backing in the 2024 election.

Voicing her support for Harris and Tim Walz, Lawrence explained her choice. She told the publication that ‘Abortion is on the ballot.’

She commended Vice President Harris for championing legislation that protects reproductive rights across the U.S., similar to the protections once provided by Roe v. Wade before its 2022 overturn.

‘I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I believe she’s an incredible candidate. I know she’ll fight to protect reproductive rights,’ Lawrence said.

‘The priority is keeping someone out of the White House who plans to ban abortion,’ she added.

Lawrence often faces online trolls when she speaks out on politics, with critics pointing out her lack of a formal education. However, she emphasizes that much of her learning comes through storytelling, which inspired her to educate others through her production company, Excellent Cadaver.

Lawrence is currently producing two documentaries that focus on women’s rights: Bread and Roses, directed by Afghan filmmaker Sahra Mani and co-produced by Malala Yousafzai, and Zurawski v Texas, directed by Maisie Crow and Abbie Perrault, with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton as co-producers.

Zurawski v Texas covers a landmark post-Roe v. Wade legal battle where 20 women sued the state of Texas, claiming its strict abortion laws denied them access to necessary medical procedures. The film follows attorney Molly Duane and plaintiffs like Amanda Zurawski, who was denied an abortion for her nonviable pregnancy and nearly died from complications, suffering permanent damage that prevents her from carrying future pregnancies.

Speaking about the women featured in Zurawski v Texas, Lawrence praised their resilience, saying, "These women have endured unimaginable suffering, yet they're using their pain to help others. It’s truly heroic." The documentary is also supported by dating app Bumble.

‘Women are dying,’ Lawrence stressed, hoping Zurawski v Texas and Bread and Roses will enlighten viewers about abortion's importance and the dangers of lawmakers controlling health decisions. She urged audiences to take action—by voting, donating, volunteering—emphasizing that voting is the most powerful way to protect women's rights.

Lawrence joins a growing list of celebrities backing Harris and Walz. Following the presidential debate on September 10, pop star Taylor Swift also revealed her support for the Democratic ticket.
