James Cameron to skip ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ LA premiere as he tests COVID-19 positive

Filmmaker James Cameron has tested positive for COVID-19 and he will not be attending the premiere of his highly anticipated film ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ in Los Angeles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director, who has been traveling around the world to promote his forthcoming film, shared the news while virtually attending the new Pressure: James Cameron into the Abyss exhibit opening that took place in the Natural History Museum.

At the Zoom presentation, James Cameron apologised to everyone who had gathered there and explained how he ‘started to feel kind of heavy’ while he was traveling back from Tokyo.

‘I got tested and sure enough I have Covid, so obviously I can’t be there, jeopardize other people,’ he said.

‘Jim has COVID but is feeling fine. He tested positive as part of a routine testing cadence. He will continue to complete his schedule virtually but will not be at the premiere,’ the publication quoted a Disney spokesperson as saying.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet.

The film, which is a sequel to the award-winning 2009 epic adventure ‘Avatar’, will release in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam on December 16, 2022.
