George Clooney Discusses the Impact of His Op-Ed on the U.S. Presidential Race, Lauds Joe Biden | Watch

George Clooney has praised President Joe Biden for his decision to step down as the Democratic presidential candidate, allowing Kamala Harris to take the lead.

Clooney described Biden's move as ‘the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington.’

The actor-director made these remarks during a press event for Jon Watt’s film ‘Wolfs’, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Clooney was joined by co-star Brad Pitt at the event.

Responding to questions about his recent New York Times op-ed, titled ‘I Love Joe Biden, But We Need a New Nominee,’ published on July 10, Clooney took the opportunity to commend the 81-year-old president.

‘The person who should be applauded is the President who did the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington,’ Clooney stated at the conference.

Clooney added, ‘The complex processes that led to this moment won’t be remembered, nor should they be. What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who made an incredibly difficult decision. It’s hard to relinquish power—something we’ve seen globally. For someone to acknowledge a better path forward deserves all the credit, and that’s the truth.’

Clooney and Brad Pitt showcased their charm at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of Jon Watt’s action comedy ‘Wolfs’.

In the film, they play rival criminal fixers who are mistakenly assigned to the same job. The two stars, who are also real-life friends, exchanged playful jabs, compliments, and insights about filmmaking during a press conference held prior to the film’s premiere.

Wolfs is the first film to feature Brad Pitt and George Clooney together since the Coen Brothers’ political satire Burn After Reading in 2008. Their initial collaboration was the Ocean’s franchise, spanning from 2001 to 2007.

Just days before their arrival in Venice, it was announced that Jon Watts has a deal with Apple to write and direct a sequel to Wolfs. It remains uncertain whether Clooney and Pitt will return for the follow-up.

Wolfs will premiere on Apple TV+ on September 27, following a limited theatrical release by Sony on September 20.
