'Eternals' has the first deaf superhero: All you need to know about Makkari

Upcoming Marvel film 'Eternals' is being called a path-breaking film, for all the right reasons.

With the film, Marvel is introducing to audiences its first deaf superhero, Makkari.

In the comics, Makkari is known primarily for her superhuman speed, which allows her to spin cyclones, run on water and defy gravity.

In Marvel Studios’ upcoming adaptation, Makkari is also Deaf — a key asset that distinguishes her from her fellow celestial protectors.

Makkari is being played on screen by Black and Mexican American actor, Lauren Ridloff, who has been deaf since birth.

This is the first major role in a feature film for Ridloff, who’s become known for playing Connie, a survivor, in “The Walking Dead.”

Speaking to reporters at the premiere of 'Eternals' in LA earlier this week, Ridloff said, Makkari would not be as fast as she is, if it wasn’t for her Deafness.

"I can’t wait for people to see the movie and be able to finally talk about it", the excited actor added.

The Eternals are an alien race living on Earth for over 7,000 years who team up to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

The film boasts of an ensemble cast with Hollywood biggies like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, along with actors Gemma Chan and Kumail Nanjiani.

'Eternals' releases in Indian theatres on November 5.
