‘Emilia Perez’ trailer: Selena Gomez stars with Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon in trans-cartel musical

The trailer for the highly anticipated movie ‘Emilia Perez’ has been released, promising a never-before-seen portrayal of Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the film delves into the underworld affairs of Mexico City.

In the opening moments, viewers are introduced to Selena Gomez's character, followed by Zoe Saldana's. The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor is seen being kidnapped and interrogated inside what appears to be a moving vehicle.

The trailer features plenty of action, including gunfights and scenes set in North America, maintaining viewer interest throughout its short duration. Additionally, it highlights several musical sequences, showcasing the talents of both Selena Gomez, known for ‘Love You Like a Love Song,’ and Zoe Saldana, known for her role in James Cameron's ‘Avatar.’

Zoe Saldana's character, Rita, is portrayed as an overworked lawyer, while Karla Sofía Gascón's Emilia Perez is depicted as a formidable drug lord.

The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2024, and was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in the main competition. ‘Emilia Perez’ has already won the Jury Prize at the festival, with its female ensemble cast receiving the Best Actress award.

‘Emilia Perez’ also received a standing ovation that lasted more than 11 minutes at the prestigious film festival.

Alongside Saldana and Gascón, Selena Gomez showcases her talents in the film as Jessi Del Monte.
