Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter, dies at 79

Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter and keyboardist, died on November 30 following a brief illness. She was 79.

A family statement posted on her official Facebook page said that she had died ‘peacefully’ in the hospital on Wednesday morning after ‘a short illness’.

‘She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie,’ read the statement.

The band also posted a statement on Twitter and said, ‘There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her.’

Some of the legendary Grammy-winning rock band's most famous songs, including ‘Little Lies’, ‘Everywhere’, and ‘Songbird’ were penned by McVie. In 1998, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fleetwood Mac was one of the best-known bands of the 1970s-80s. In 1998, McVie exited the group but rejoined for a fleeting reunion 16 years later.
