Brendan Fraser won't be participating in Golden Globes 2023, says 'my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite'

Hollywood actor Brendan Fraser has announced that he won’t be attending the Golden Globes awards, which will be held in January. His performance in ‘The Whale’ may earn him a nomination.

In an interview with GQ magazine, the actor said, 'I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.’

When asked if he will attend the ceremony if he gets nominated, Fraser replied, 'No, I will not participate.'

'It’s because of the history that I have with them and also my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that,' he concluded.

In 2018, Fraser accused Hollywood Foreign Press Association member Philip Berk, a former president of the organization, of groping him. The incident took place at a Beverly Hills, California, luncheon in 2003. Philip Berk, a member from South Africa, was ousted from the HFPA last year after his comment on the Black Lives Matter movement. He had termed it as 'a racist hate movement.'

Last year, Golden Globes was cancelled over ethical indiscretions and the news that the organisation then had no Black voting members. The award show has faced a boycott from several celebrities, publicists, and studios.

The 80th Golden Globes will be aired on January 10 on NBC.
