Ben Affleck, Matt Damon criticise the Academy for disqualifying their documentary

A controversy has erupted as the race to Oscars 2025 begins. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s documentary ‘Kiss the Future’ was disqualified from Oscars 2025.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has deemed the documentary film ineligible as it believes that its theatrical release had not fulfilled the criteria. According to the Academy, ‘Kiss the Future’ played fewer shows than required and for a film to qualify for the race it must play in the same theater three times a day for a week.

The film’s producers, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have slammed the Academy’s decision and insisted that the film is Oscar-eligible as it was released in 13 AMC cinemas. Their appeal was however denied by the Academy.

‘Kiss the Future’ is directed by Nenad Cicin-Sain and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last year. It was nominated for the Cinema for Peace Award and also won the Audience Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
