Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez file for divorce: Real reason for the split and how the kids are coping

After months of speculation, Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Rumors about their separation began earlier this year, and throughout the summer, their lack of wedding rings, the sale of their marital homes, and increasing distance fuelled the speculation.

A new report reveals the reasons behind Lopez's decision to file.

Sources told People Magazine that Lopez did not receive any signs from Affleck that he wanted to remain in the marriage. Frustrated by this lack of commitment, Lopez reportedly decided to move forward with the divorce.

An insider shared, ‘She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t shown any desire to continue their marriage.’

The source also mentioned, ‘She tried very hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are her top priority, as they always have been.’

The grapevine also suggests that Jennifer is ready to ‘move on.’ Jennifer has not yet responded to the reports.

Although the couple does not have children together, Affleck is a father to three kids with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and Lopez is a mother to twins with her former husband Marc Anthony. Both are very close to the children.

The five children—Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, Samuel, 12, and 16-year-old twins Max and Emme—are reportedly coping well with the divorce. A source close to the situation stated, “His kids are handling it fine, as are hers. Everyone is ready to move on,” shortly after Lopez filed for divorce.

The siblings have maintained a close bond since Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship in 2021, frequently being seen together at shopping malls, amusement parks, and on vacations with their parents, according to Page Six.

Lopez was concerned about how the divorce might impact the children during the split rumours. The source added, ‘There are five kids involved. She knew they would blend families but has not fully accepted that it’s over,’ as reported by Page Six.

Their divorce was officially confirmed on August 20, when Lopez submitted the legal documents to the Los Angeles Superior Court without an attorney. She listed April 26, 2024, as the date of separation.
