‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ leaked online; TN theatre owners express regret about not screening the film

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was released in cinemas nationwide on December 16 and now it is being reported that the sequel to the Oscar-winning 3D sci-fi flick has been already leaked online within 24 hours of its release.

The James Cameron directorial is now available for download in HD, 720P, and 1080P on various websites, including Movierulz, Filmyzilaa, and Tamilrockers. The newly released film is also being circulated on the social media platform Telegram. Besides the English version, the dubbed versions including Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and others are available.

According to Indian Express report, many owners of single screens in Tamil Nadu have expressed regret about not screening the film as they failed to resolve disagreements with the film’s producers over profit-sharing terms.

Rakesh Gowthaman, the owner of Chennai’s popular twin-screen Vetri Theatres, who was very excited about the release of ‘Avatar 2’, told Indianexpress.com that the producers are demanding 10 per cent more than the usual term.

‘We said we will give 5 per cent more as a special case for Avatar 2. But, they didn’t agree. We usually pay 55 per cent share in the first week. This time, we offered 60 per cent,’ Rakesh told Indianexpress.com.

However, he added that negotiations are still on with the producers and he is hopeful that they could find an agreeable solution soon.

‘Avatar 2’ released in Tamil Nadu on about 300 screens. Many single screens have agreed to the terms demanded by the producers. However, a few refused to budge.

'Avatar 2' is the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster 'Avatar', which is the highest-grossing film of all time.
