2 times Oscar nominated, ‘The Full Monty’ actor Tom Wilkinson no more; tributes pour in

Two-time Oscar nominated veteran British actor Tom Wilkinson passed away on Saturday at the age of 75. His family announced the news through his agent, however, no further details were provided. The actor was best known for his roles in 'The Full Monty', 'Michael Clayton' and 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'. Wilkinson worked in more than 130 films and TV shows in his 5-decade-long career.

Wilkinson started his acting career in the 1970s but got fame in 1997 when he starred in ‘The Full Monty’. He won a BAFTA for Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role for the film. His role in the critically acclaimed Best Picture nominee ‘In the Bedroom’ got him an Academy Award nomination for the Best Actor in a leading role.

Wilkinson went on to do some remarkable work in the following years. He appeared in several commercially successful films including ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’. He received second Academy nomination for his role in ‘Michael Clayton’. He is also recipient of Emmy Award for ‘John Adams’ where he portrayed the character of Benjamin Franklin. He was nominated at least thrice more for Emmys including the one for his role of President John F Kennedy’s father in ‘The Kennedys’.

Several Hollywood celebrities paid their condolences to the late actor. George Clooney who has shared screen with Wilkinson said, “Tom made every project better, made every actor better. He was the epitome of elegance, and he will be dearly missed by all of us.” Several other actors and film personalities took to X to remember the Veteran actor.
