Will Katrina Kaif give up UK citizenship after marrying Vicky Kaushal?

That’s a question all Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif fans are asking.

Vicky and Katrina are getting married on December 9 and now fans are wondering if the latter will be willing to give up her UK citizenship to become an ‘Indian’ bahu?

Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong to Mohammed Kaif, a British businessman of Kashmiri descent and Suzanne Turquotte, an English lawyer and charity worker. She holds a UK citizenship and has been living in India for the past 15 years on a work visa.

Now, India doesn’t have dual citizenship, so Katrina will have to give up her UK citizenship if she wants to become an Indian citizen.

In India, marriage is not a basis for granting citizenship. One has to live in India for 7 years after marriage to be granted Indian citizenship.

There is another way through which one can get India’s citizenship. The candidate should have lived in India for 11 out of the last 14 years and for one year continuously before applying.

And Katrina Kaif has working in India for nearly 17 years now, so it should help things along if she wishes to opt for Indian citizenship.

Though it is all okay if she chooses not to go for it and keep her UK citizenship.

We don’t see anyone asking if Vicky Kaushal will leave India citizenship and take UK citizenship for love.
