'Welcome to Samdal-ri' actor Ji Chang Wook issues apology for smoking indoors, team deletes BTS video

South Korean actor Ji Chang Wook, who was most recently seen in 'Welcome to Samdal-ri', has issued an apology after he was caught smoking indoors. His agency has also shared a statement.

Ji Chang Wook caught smoking indoors

On January 26, the makers of 'Welcome to Samdal-ri' dropped a behind-the-scenes video sharing some candid moments from the shoot. However, eagle-eyed netizens were quick to catch a glimpse of Ji Chang Wook smoking an electronic cigarette on the indoor set in the BTS video. Since it is illegal in South Korea to smoke or vape in public areas aside from designated smoking areas, the actor is now facing heat from the internet. After the video went viral, he issued an apology, with the 'Welcome to Samdal-ri' team ultimately deleting the video.

Actor's agency releases statement

On February 11, Ji Chang Wook’s agency, Spring Company, released the following statement that read: 'We would like to apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable about Ji Chang Wook’s actions in the behind-the-scenes content from his drama that was released on January 26. The behind-the-scenes content in question included a scene of actor Ji Chang Wook smoking an electronic cigarette indoors. The scene brought discomfort to those who saw it as improper.'

The statement further added that the actor recognises his behaviour was improper, and that he feels sorry for disappointing many people. 'With this incident in mind, we will take special care to prevent this kind of improper behaviour from reoccurring in the future. Once again, we sincerely apologize for giving many people cause for concern through this incident,' it concluded.

Meanwhile, on the K-drama front, Ji Chang Wook will next feature in 'The Queen 'Woo''.
