Vir Das shares special post after Emmy win, reveals he was ‘dishwasher once’

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das, fresh from winning the prestigious International Emmy Award 2023, shared a special post on social media.

In the photo, Vir stood proudly in front of a dishwasher within the hotel's kitchen where the award ceremony took place.

This seemingly ordinary moment held deep significance for Vir, who reflected on his past struggles, reminiscing about his days working as a dishwasher in a restaurant.

Taking to social media, Vir posted the picture, labeling it his "fav photo" of the night. Clad in a black tuxedo worn for the ceremony, he held the Emmy trophy in his hand.

In his Instagram caption, he revealed the touching backstory: as he and his team traversed through the hotel's kitchen en route to the press room, his manager reminded him of his days as a dishwasher, prompting the poignant snapshot.

Vir Das had previously worked as a dishwasher at the Grand Lux Cafe in Chicago while aiming to intern at Roadworks Productions.

He had also disclosed his stint as a doorman at the same cafe in the past.

Sharing further from his International Emmy triumph, Vir posted a video snippet of his acceptance speech on Instagram.

Expressing gratitude, he dedicated his win to India, acknowledging the impact of laughter as a universal language that unites people.

The award recognized Vir Das for his Netflix comedy special titled "Vir Das: Landing," marking his second International Emmy nomination.

Competing against France's "Le Flambeau" and Argentina's "El Encargado," Vir Das and the series "Derry Girls" were among the nominees in the category.
