Vidya Balan claims to be labelled as 'jinxed' at the beginning of her career

Actor Vidya Balan claimed that after her first movie was abruptly canceled, people called her 'jinxed'. This caused her to lose out on many of her future opportunities. The Shakuntala Devi actor stated that she is not superstitious but was 'heartbroken' to have been replaced in an interview with India Today.

Sharing her experience, She said, 'After finishing my first schedule, I believe I received 7-8 film offers when I shot my first Malayalam feature film with Mohanlal. The movie was shelved after the first schedule, which was the only issue. Therefore, not only was the movie shelved, but I was also replaced in every other movie. I was then referred to as jinxed.'

The actor further continued, 'It's absurd. I don't think it exists. I don't believe in superstitions. Any success or failure, in my opinion, cannot be attributed to anyone else. You are aware that things don't always work out. When I was replaced in all those movies, I was devastated. I was fired from a major Tamil movie at the time.'

Vidya also said that meeting Pradeep Sarkar, who cast her in the Parineeta and Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali movies, changed her life.

As per Vidya, her anger over the rejections was primarily directed at her mother because her father was typically away at work. She also stated,'My mother used to re-center me through prayer and meditation. Why don't you just sit and pray? she would ask me, but I would only argue with her because I was feeling irate, angry, and helpless'.

On the work front, the actor most recently appeared in the biopic Shakuntala Devi, which received mixed-to-positive reviews.
