Asha Parekh will be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke award this year, the highest recognition in the field of Indian cinema. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1992.  

Veteran star Asha Parekh to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year

Veteran actor Asha Parekh will conferred with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, India's highest film honour, for her stupendous contribution to the Indian cinema this year, news agency ANI tweeted. ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award to be conferred to actor Asha Parekh this year: Union Minister Anurag Thakur,’ read the tweet.


Asha Parekh is considered as one of the most influential actresses of Indian cinema. The 79-year-old actor is best known for films such as ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Teesri Manzil’, and ‘Caravan’. Asha Parekh last featured in 1999 film ‘Sar Aankhon Par’.


She was also awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992 for her services to the cinema.
The Dadasaheb Phalke award is presented every year at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, a Ministry of Information and Broadcasting body.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award of India in the field of cinema. It is given in the memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, who is regarded as the ‘father of Indian cinema’.
