Veteran actor Junior Mehmood dies at 67 after prolonged battle with cancer

Renowned actor Naeem Sayyed, popularly known as Mehmood Junior, passed away at the age of 67 at his home in Mumbai on Friday after suffering from stomach cancer.

He is best known for his roles in movies such as Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, and Mera Naam Joker. The actor's funeral will take place at Santacruz kabrastan on December 8.

According to indianexpress.com, the actor’s family confirmed his demise. The statement read, ‘Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace.’

Junior Mehmood’s son Husnain told indianexpress.com, ‘We came to know about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. We took him to Tata Memorial Hospital. The dean there told us that treatment and chemotherapy at this stage would be very painful. The hospital had suggested that we take care of him at home.’

Junior Mehmood commenced his cinematic journey as a child artist in Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966). He later featured in films such as Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, Kati Patang, Hare Raama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Imaandaar, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, Gurudev, Chhote Sarkar, and Judaai.

Additionally, he briefly appeared in television shows like Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara and Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka. Beyond acting, he ventured into production and direction, contributing to several Marathi films.
