'The Ladykiller' director shares why Arjun Kapoor-Bhumi Pednekar starrer was released incomplete

Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar starrer 'The Ladykiller' was released in theatres on November 3 but it was criticised for being 'choppy' and 'disjointed'.

The Ajay Bahl directorial didn't have any marketing or promotional posts from actors.

Now, the director has confirmed that the movie was incomplete in comments section of a YouTube channel. He revealed that 30 pages of the 117 page screenplay were never shot and it's no surprise that it's hard to connect with the characters.

He also addressed the rumours of actors' rift with him and shared that Arjun and Bhumi gave their heart and soul to the film but the problem lay somewhere else.

'To confirm, yes, the movie is incomplete. 30 pages of the 117-page screenplay were never shot. A huge number of connecting scenes—Arjun and Bhumi’s entire romance, Bhumi’s dependence on alcohol, Ajrun’s sense of being trapped and losing everything and having to run from town, his sense of total despair—all these psychological beats are missing. So yes, it's no surprise that the film feels choppy and disjointed, and one finds it hard to connect with the characters. Now about the rumours floating out here, As director, it was extremely painful to shoot The Lady Killer, but absolutely not because of the actors. Arjun and Bhumi were sheer joys to work with. They gave their heart and soul to the film. The problem lied elsewhere, but that is another story,' Ajay wrote in the comments.

According to reports, a shooting schedule was supposed to be shot outdoors in Uttarakhand but due to incessant rains, the makers couldn't shoot. The film was thus edited and finished without a patchwork shoot.

It was released in cinemas due to an obligation to the OTT platform that it's going to premiere on later.

Aside from Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, 'The Ladykiller' also stars Priyanka Bose, S. M. Zaheer, Ekavali Khanna, Denzil Smith, and Deepak Tokas in pivotal roles.

The film was released in only 12 theatres across the country on November 3, 2023.
