Sunny Leone denied permission to perform at Kerala University: Report | More details here

Actor Sunny Leone has reportedly been denied permission to perform a dance show at the University College of Engineering campus in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5. According to Malayalam media outlets, the vice-chancellor directed the registrar to ensure Leone’s performance was not included in the program.

Why this decision was taken

This decision comes after a tragic incident last November, where a stampede at a concert at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in Ernakulam resulted in the deaths of four students and injuries to over 60 others before singer Nikita Gandhi’s performance at a musical festival.

Following the incident, the Kerala High Court stated that the stampede during the annual tech festival was evidently due to ‘some failure’ and ‘should never have happened.’

In light of the recent stampede-related deaths during events at Thiruvananthapuram Engineering College and Cusat, the state government has banned external DJ parties and music nights on campuses.

The vice-chancellor emphasized that, despite this order, the University College union attempted to organize a dance program without the university’s permission. He stated that such programs would not be allowed on or off campus in the name of the union under any circumstances.
