Sonakshi Sinha will not convert to Islam after her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, confirms groom's father

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal will tie the knot on June 23, after dating for over four years. The pre-wedding shenanigans of the couple kicked off on Friday (June 21), with a mehendi ceremony held in Mumbai. The announcement of their marriage has generated significant interest and speculation, primarily due to their different religious backgrounds. Several reports suggested that Sonakshi's family has reservations due to the interfaith marriage; however, those rumours were soon quashed with a recent family reunion. Now, Iqbal Ratanasi, Zaheer's father, has clarified that Sonakshi will not convert to Islam after the marriage.

'Sonakshi is not converting'

In an interview with Free Press Journal, Ratanasi opened up on the nature of the upcoming nuptials of his son Zaheer Iqbal with Sonakshi Sinha. He said, "Sonakshi will not convert to Islam after the couple gets married. The wedding will neither have Muslim rituals nor Hindu rituals. It will be a civil marriage." He further added, "She is not converting and that is for sure. Theirs is a union of hearts and religion has no role to play whatsoever."

Ratanasi further blessed the soon-to-be-wed couple saying, "I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi."

More about the wedding

Sonakshi and Zaheer's wedding festivities will be held at Bastian, Mumbai, at 8 pm on June 23. The dress code for the evening is formal, with the couple requesting guests not to wear red. Apart from the Sinhas and the Ratanasis, the ceremony will see many of Sonakshi and Zaheer's close friends and peers in attendance.
