'Soldier 2': Preity Zinta and Bobby Deol to reunite? Producer Ramesh Taurani spills the beans

Ramesh Taurani’s 1998 film 'Soldier' remains an important work in his career. This action-thriller achieved box office success, becoming the year's second highest grossing film after 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.' The chemistry between lead actors alongwith it's music contributed immensely to its popularity.

Bobby Deol hinted about a sequel to 'Soldier,' expressing his desire for Taurani to pursue it. Taurani, who recently released the sequel to 'Ishq Vishk' titled 'Ishq Vishk Rebound,' has now confirmed exclusively to News18 Showsha that the sequel to 'Soldier' is in work. 'We’re definitely making a sequel to Soldier. We will begin shooting for the film next year,' he disclosed.

Regarding the cast for 'Soldier 2,' Taurani mentioned that they haven't finalised anything yet. 'We aren’t sure about the cast yet. Depends on how the story shapes, we will take a call on whether Bobby and Preity will be a part of it,' he stated.

Reflecting on Preity Zinta's entry into Bollywood through 'Soldier,' Taurani recalled, 'We had signed her for 'Kya Kehnaa' first but its release got delayed. During its production, 'Soldier,' which was a major project for us, started filming, and we ended up casting her in that too.'

Explaining the delay Taurani revealed, 'Soldier' was ready by April 1998, and we initially planned to release it in August. However, we also owned the music rights for another Bobby Deol film, 'Kareeb,' produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. We decided to release 'Kareeb' earlier to avoid conflict.'

He emphasised the strategic planning involved in managing multiple film releases, 'We were concerned about the impact on both films if trailers and promotions clashed. Releasing both in the same month wasn't feasible, hence 'Kareeb' was prioritised.'

In a previous interview, Bobby Deol had hinted at the sequel, mentioning, 'It’s been a long time! Maybe after 'Animal,' Ramesh ji, will think of making 'Soldier' part two with me.'
