Sharmin Segal reacts to being labelled 'rude, disrespectful' to her co-stars: 'Bothers me in some ways'

Actor Sharmin Segal faced massive criticism for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. She has also been criticised for her promotional interviews with many pointing out her 'rude' and 'disrespectful' behaviour towards her co-stars.

In response to the backlash, Sharmin expressed gratitude for the support shown by her co-stars like Richa Chadha and Aditi Rao Hydari.

'I see that my co-stars are courageous people to come out and talk in my support. It’s humbling to know that that’s how they feel about me. Some of them personally reached out to me as well, but to step in for me on public platforms, I just feel like I want to go and hug them... Aditi looks out for me. I look out for her… she's one of the people who most actively called me, checked in, and ensured I was okay throughout this month. I love her. It's a complete misrepresentation of my equation with Aditi. I only have respect for her.' she said.

Regarding the controversies, Sharmin defended herself, stating that comments about her being disrespectful or arrogant were taken out of context. 'I think it’s unfair to judge or label me a bad, rude, or disrespectful person without knowing me. I think it’s unfair, and it bothers me in some ways. For me, a comment section cannot define a person as good or bad because those people do not know me', she added.

Addressing a specific incident where she referred to Aditi Rao Hydari as a 'schoolgirl' which was intended as a roast, Sharmin clarified that it was misunderstood. She insisted that her bond with Aditi is positive and respectful, contrary to how it may have been portrayed.

Despite mixed reviews for her role in 'Heeramandi,' Sharmin emphasised that judgement based on online comments is unfair, as it doesn't capture her real self. Sharmin remains grateful for the support from her colleagues and stands firm against what she perceives as misrepresentation in the public eye.
