Shahid Kapoor reveals he hated being called 'cute': ‘Why would you say that to anybody?’

Actor Shahid Kapoor, whose recently released web series ‘Farzi’ is receiving rave reviews, opened up about his reaction to compliments. He said that he hated his ‘cute’ boy image and also didn’t like his ‘boy-next-door’ roles.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actor said, ‘I hate that word Vanilla. You know, I used to hate it when people say ‘Oh you are cute’. I hate it. I was like ‘Why would you say that to anybody.’ I never liked that word. I have learned to be graceful and accept it now, that people throw it at me. But I just felt that it is very limiting.’

Shahid has worked in this industry for around two decades. He reflected on his journey and said, ‘It’s been pretty psychotic. What was I thinking with some of the choices? Kaminey followed by Dil Bole Hadippa. And Haider followed by R Rajkumar. I don’t know what was going on with me.’

The actor also spoke about his role in ‘Farzi’ and said, ‘I am attracted to unconventional characters. You have to be an artist, which is what Farzi is all about. So, I think some of my personal angst is attached to Sunny in Farzi. And I wanted to express myself, you know. I wanted people to see my soul, to understand my emotions, to experience my mind, and not just stay busy with what is outside. That's important, it matters.’

He also added, ‘I think some of the choices that, let’s just say as a community, the film fraternity has made in the last 3-4 years have not been good so we all have to come together to make stronger, better, clearer choices with more awareness of where things are and how the audience is feeling and how to keep them happy and satisfied.’

For the unversed, ‘Farzi’ also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna, Regina Cassandra, and Bhuvan Arora.
