Shah Rukh Khan 'begs' Mani Ratnam for movie; says he’ll buy plane if he agrees to work with him again

Shah Rukh Khan and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, who last collaborated in the film 'Dil Se' over 26 years ago, discussed the possibility of working together once more during an event where they were both honoured.

In a humorous twist, as the audience cheered for their reunion, Shah Rukh jokingly mentioned that he had been ‘begging’ Mani Ratnam to work on a film together, but the filmmaker playfully laid down a condition for the star.

Shah Rukh said, ‘Mani sir, what now? It’s all come out in the open now. I’m requesting you. I’m begging you. I’m telling you every time. Do a film with me, I swear, I will dance on top of a plane on ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’, if you tell me. What is a train?’

As the crowd erupted in laughter, Mani Ratnam was asked when he was going to cast Shah Rukh in a film, and the director said, ‘When he buys a plane.’

Shah Rukh immediately responded, ‘If I buy a plane?’

Mani agreed, and said, ‘I’ll do it.’

The audience enthusiastically applauded the idea of their potential collaboration, with Shah Rukh Khan humorously saying, ‘Mani, let me just tell you, considering the way my films are performing, this plane won't be too far away. I'm on my way!’

To wrap up the conversation, Mani Ratnam quipped, ‘I'll bring it down, don't worry.’

In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan experienced significant success with 'Pathaan,' 'Jawan,' and 'Dunki,' marking his three biggest hits to date. After a dry spell at the box office for several years, he made a triumphant return with 'Pathaan' in January 2023. Collectively, these three films amassed over Rs 2500 crore worldwide.

During the same event, Shah Rukh Khan openly acknowledged that he had faced challenging times, both professionally and personally, in recent years.

While he has not officially announced his next film, he hinted in a previous conversation with MBC Bollywood that his upcoming role would be more age-appropriate. Rumors suggest he might play a supporting role in his daughter Suhana Khan's new film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Additionally, there are speculations of him starring in a project directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Fans eagerly await official announcements regarding his future projects.
